【Bolt Tightening Troubles】Causes of Leaks at Flanges and Improvement Measures
We will introduce the phenomenon of fluid leaking from between the flanges due to internal pressure in the container.
This article introduces the issues with bolt fastening around heat exchangers and piping, specifically focusing on the causes and improvement measures for leaks at flanges. The causes include "insufficient axial force (surface pressure) management," "misalignment and damage of gaskets," and "reduction of axial force due to temperature cycles (essential factors)." There is a minimum surface pressure required to prevent leaks, but due to the above causes, it is not possible to secure and maintain the necessary surface pressure, resulting in leaks occurring between the flanges. As an improvement measure, there is a "tensioning method" that allows for management of bending stress and axial force. It can be fastened without rotation, thus not affected by friction, allows for axial force management, and pulls straight to prevent misalignment.
